Too Much Information: A Journey of Wellness

This is the place I write about my health journey

Crying in the Waiting Room

As I have begun the process of learning about Crohn’s disease, natural healing, various diets, and how my life will look, I have found a great resource in the book The Maker’s Diet, written by Jordan Rubin.

It’s amazing to me to hear this man’s story, and it really speaks to me on a very emotional level. This morning I was reading it as I waited for my appointment to get a replacement  IV in my arm, I began to cry. In public.

This man almost DIED from the complications from his Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, and various other maladies. He went from weighing 180 pounds to 111. It’s obscene.

For the first time in this whole process I feel lucky to be in the place I’m at. I’m not undergoing anything I can’t handle. Thank the Lord.

“There’s Light at the End of the Tunnel”

Well, this week is crazy. In addition to the health problems, I of course have my life to contend with. I have rehearsal for “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying” all week and it’s been very physical and tiring for me, and it’s only been one day. Besides the health problems, I’m a god-awful dancer. It’s rough.

Anyways. I just got off the phone with a nice Australian man who is the representative for my area for a natural supplement company called Standard Process. He’s going to be sending me some practitioners in my area.

He also suffers from something similar and he told me: “You can’t cure Crohn’s disease, but you can control it. There’s light at the end of the tunnel.”

A Step In the Right Direction?

First and foremost, let me just say that antibiotics suck. I’m hoping that the probiotics and fiber I’m trying to shovel in will take effect soon!

But thanks to a very good friend’s connection to a chiropractor who specializes in natural healing. She’s far away, but she gave me some good ideas to look into. She recommended two books. The first: a sort of encyclopedia that examines all things natural healing. The second: a book on a diet a doctor developed using biblical research in order to heal his own crohn’s… I’m not sure what the bible really has to say about food, but I want to try everything natural and avoid medicine and surgery.

So I rented the books from my school’s library exchange program (Link+ is great) and I will be soon learning all kinds of good knowledge!!

Until next time.

Starting to juice

Well today I put a lot of stuff in my juicer and some liquid came out. I made orange juice as well as carrot-ginger-kale-spinach-Brussels sprouts juice. It actually doesn’t taste bad, I promise. It’s mostly carrot juice and I intend to mix it with the orange juice in the morning and drank it.

So far so good.

I’m supplementing my diet with lots of nutritious juice so my tummy will be healthy again.

Also, on a side note, I made beet juice yesterday. There’s a reason people use the term “beet red.” Just think that one over and figure out what I mean…

Life’s little journeys

Hey all. Let this be known henceforth as the place to be when you want an update on my health. I’m probably over sharing, but this information stream is as much for you as it is for me.

A few months ago I discovered that I had an abscess in a not-so-pleasant place… Lets just say it was my butt. I’m being frank here. Get used to it.

I visited doctors (who at first insisted I had chlamydia… yeah, no) and quickly was put on antibiotics as an easy solution. Let me just insert my thought here that our healthcare system is completely antiquated and while it sometimes helps, it has done me more harm than good.

So after being on said antibiotics for over a month, my stomach was completely a mess. I had terrible problems including diarrhea, intense cramps, and other bad tummy problems. Skip ahead to now, and I discover that my stomach problems is Crohn’s disease, and the abscess is actually something called a fistula. These fistulas are a side effect of the disease I have come to find out.

After seeing a gastroenterologist and scheduling my colonoscopy (ugh… it’s on Feb 10th. Should make a good blog post), I find out I may have to be put on some sort of medication to keep the fistulas closed for my whole life. As in FOREVER. No no no NO NO. I refuse.

So here I am today, typing away furiously with an IV in my arm in which I must inject antibiotics daily for the next two weeks, about to embark on a journey of wellness. We go on journeys every day. I mean, each trip to the grocery store, work, school, or anywhere for that matter can be considered a journey. My destination is wellness—more specifically, wellness by letting my body heal itself, dang it!

So I will start being as proactive about my health as possible.

I bought a juicer.

I will no longer eat the disgusting processed crap that is so available and convenient.

Thats all for now. But be prepared for results, because I am damn determined.

Also, please note: I’m probably very stupid for starting this blog, because I literally have no time.

That is all.
